The Fourth Edition of 1990 was the largest, consisting of 49 pieces. It was marked by an infusion of new energy, with two pieces receiving nominations for the 1990 Collector Editions Magazine Award. These were, first, the Tribute to Barney Illions, in an edition of 8500, depicting the carver adding finishing touches to a flared-mane horse

and second, four musicals with two horses each (with up and down motion), which could be displayed on a cross-section of a carousel façade and platform, creating the look and feel of a real carousel. There were even lights under the rim of the rounding boards:


One of the themes that is featured for the first time in the Fourth Edition is the "four seasons," embodied in the following full carousel musical:

The "four seasons" were also issued
(1) in small horses on brass bases, with gold toned reins

(2) and in small horses on wooden musical bases, with up and down motion:

(3) and in small horses on musical wooden bases, in front of a band organ façade:

(The popularity of the Four Seasons motif was to lead to the inclusion of four larger renditions in the Fifth Edition of 1991).

A horse inspired by Charles Looff appeared on a brass base, on a wooden musical base (with up and down motion), and on a wooden musical base in front of a band organ façade.

The popular Herschell-Spillman zebra (from the 1988 Second Edition) re-appeared in smaller form on a brass base, on a wooden musical base, and on a wooden musical base with band organ facade.

The zebra was joined by a Looff camel in the same three formats:

The double horseshoe brass base, which first appeared in the 1989 Third Edition, came back on a Looff piece, with hair tail

and a PTC patriotic horse.

The latter was also issued mounted on a wooden musical base.

Eight small animals by Charles Parker were issued in fairly large editions (14,500) on brass bases

as well as on small wooden musical bases.

An ornament (inspired by Carmel) was included once more in the 1990 edition.
